World Heritage Yakushima
”Sound Art” Premium Tour
A World Heritage-registered natural wonder, Yakushima offers Japan’s most treasured natural beauty and profound history.
This exclusive tour is led by a professional guide who has long worked as a filming coordinator on the island, taking you to hidden, untouched places far beyond ordinary tourism.
These secluded spots, chosen exclusively for film productions, are remote corners of Yakushima unknown to most.
With the themes of "Legacy" and "Sound," this premium tour goes beyond merely seeing Yakushima’s nature and history—it invites you to hear, touch, and feel the island with all five senses.
Listen to the sound of water echoing through the forest, the wind brushing over rugged stone surfaces, the ancient stories whispered by the trees… and enjoy live musical performances deep within the woods.
By fully immersing yourself in these experiences, you’ll come closer to Yakushima’s very essence.
This emotional journey will touch you intuitively and leave a lasting impression.
Welcome to a one-of-a-kind adventure that awakens your senses.
Tabira Takuya
Founder of Tabira, a guiding company that leads visitors through the forest with a unique perspective: "Don't be surprised when flowers bloom on dead trees—be surprised when they bloom on living ones."
Since 1999, Tabira has studied the forests of Yakushima through hands-on experience in forestry, and became an independent guide in 2007. In addition to guiding, he works as a location coordinator and photographer for nature documentaries (including programs by NHK and TBS), music videos, TV commercials, and feature films—sharing the deep, untold stories of Yakushima’s ancient wilderness.

Your journey begins at Ushidoko Moisho (牛床詣所), a sacred site for mountain worship. Surrounded by Yakushima’s spiritual atmosphere, this place serves as the gateway to a tranquil forest retreat.
The main destination is Shiratani Unsuikyo(白谷雲水峡), renowned for its verdant moss-covered forests and ancient cedar trees. Here, you’ll immerse yourself in a world of natural beauty.
Led by your local guide, you’ll embark on a gentle walk, attuned to the sounds of birdsong, the rustling of leaves, and the soothing flow of crystal-clear streams nourishing the mossy landscape.
At a serene spot deep within the forest, where moss and flowing water converge in harmony, you’ll pause for a brief meditation. Following this, a live musical performance will enhance the forest’s natural symphony, deepening your sensory experience.
On the return journey, you’ll visit the Miyanoura River (宮之浦川), one of Yakushima’s most iconic waterways, to appreciate the contrasting sounds of nature.

Uchida Akira
Musician, piano tuner, and clavichord maker.
He crafts clavichords—a keyboard instrument developed in the 14th century—and has created instruments for renowned artist Sakamoto Ryuichi and Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto.
Uchida also leads unique workshops that explore the world of sound through the art of piano tuning.
He is an artist who creates his own instruments, tunes them, and plays them.
For him, this flow—of making, tuning, and performing—is essential. It is through this resonance of sound that he seeks to observe and engage with the world.
